The Bank Holiday weekend combined with the fine weather will see a major increase in traffic on the roads of the Premier County over the coming days.

Gardaí are conducting a major road safety campaign across the country with a particular emphasis on drink and drug driving, speeding and the use of mobile phones.

Thurles based Inspector James White says the sunshine is also likely to mean there will also be more vulnerable road users out and about.

“As we head into the Bank Holiday weekend we’re all aware that we’re currently enjoying a good spell of weather and the forecast is for that to continue right throughout the weekend. This will of course increase the number of pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists on the road.

“Our appeal to all motorists this weekend is to drive within the speed limit and to reduce your speed to suit the road or weather conditions.”
