Garda investigations are continuing into incidents of stones being thrown at vehicles on both the M7 and M8 in Tipperary.

There have been a number of reports relating to the M8 in Cashel with the most recent seeing rocks thrown at a busload of school students from Cahir.

While the driver was able to maintain control of the vehicle and no one was injured, there are concerns that these incidents continue to increase.

Meanwhile, a number of trucks and a bus were damaged when they were targeted in recent weeks by people throwing rocks onto the M7 near Birdhill.

Superintendent Eddie Golden told Tipp Today earlier that it’s a relatively new phenomenon.

“We’re investigating actively both of those incidents plus any other incident that has been reported to us.

“It is being taken seriously by An Garda Siochana – we are trying to identify people involved.

“It’s something that really only in the last 12 months I’ve heard of this as an activity which young people seem to be getting some sort of fun out of which is absolutely unacceptable.”
