Rainfall Alert – extreme caution advised on the roads

Met Éireann has issued a Yellow Rainfall alert for Tipperary until midnight tonight.

Up to 50 millimetres of rain is forecast for Tipperary today- this has already led to spot flooding on many roads across the county.

Excess surface water is reported on the M8 and M7 in particular which is leading to problems with aquaplaning.

Floods are also a problem on stretches of the N24 and on many minor roads as well.

Motorists are being reminded to reduce their speed and ensure a safe stopping distance to the vehicle in front.

Storm Brian is following hot on the heels of today’s rainfall alert – it’s expected to bring strong winds tomorrow and Saturday adding to the already hazardous driving conditions.
