Drink driving remains a major issue on the roads of Tipperary.
An average of almost one motorist a day was found to be over the limit in the first half of June.
Anyone planning on taking to the roads over the weekend is being reminded not to drink and drive.
Sgt Carol O’Leary says detections are happening at all times of the day.
She is urging people to take action if they know someone who is getting behind the wheel after consuming alcohol.
“Across the county there’s been 13 arrests for drink drivers and they’re across all times of the day and night, days of the week. They’ve been stopped at checkpoints, traffic collisions, we have found disqualified drivers. There was one person who was disqualified for 12 years and was still taking a chance driving and then was also driving under the influence.
“If you know they’re making that decision you need to have the conversation – it’s going to be awkward, it’s going to be uncomfortable but please, it could save their life, the lives of others or your own life.
“The profile of people doing it has certainly changed. Before you would say that there was a certain age profile that would chance it and go down and have the two pints. Now its across all age ranges.”
