The Chair of the Oireachtas Transport Committee – Tipperary TD Michael Murphy – has highlighted the need to reduce waiting times for driving tests.
The first public meeting of the committee met with senior officials from the Road Safety Authority to discuss the issue as well as delays in getting NCT appointments.
He told the gathering that not being able to get a driving licence is having a huge impact in Tipp and across the country.
“All of us are members are feeling it in our constituency offices every week. I would say it’s the aspiration of nearly every teenager – 16 or 17 years of age – to get their hands on that full drivers licence. Its so important in terms of employment, caring, other areas as well such as education.”
