Upwards of 13 cars have been involved in a collision on the M7 in North Tipp.

The motorway will be closed for a number of hours in both directions between Roscrea and Moneygall following the multi vehicle crash.

The pile up happened at around 3 o’clock this afternoon on the northbound lane between Junction 23 Moneygall and Junction 22 Roscrea.

Driving conditions were said to be very poor at the time due to a freak hail shower.

Ambulance crews are currently dealing with a number of serious injuries though it’s understood they are not life threatening.

Emergency services are also dealing with separate 2-vehicle crash on the southbound lane in the same area.

Diversions are in place and motorists are being advised to avoid the area if at all possible.

Gardaí says the motorway will be closed for some time as an air-ambulance is en-route to take the injured to hospital.
