Extremely poor driving conditions across the Premier

Locals are being warned not to travel this morning unless it is absolutely necessary after Tipperary was badly affected by massive levels of snowfall over the weekend and icy conditions overnight.

A number of roads have been declared impassable at times even some main routes which have been salted.

The Ardfinnan Road from Cahir is blocked by a truck near SAP Nurseries.

The M8 southbound is moving again near Cashel following lengthy delays earlier.

Sgt Carol O’Leary says stay home if you can but if you have to go out to make sure it’s as safe as possible along your planned route.

A large number of schools are staying closed today – parents should check with their schools before setting out.

Senior Engineer with Tipperary County Council James Murray says the local authority road crews will be working round the clock but road users need to take utmost care.

All rail routes – except one – will operate today, but there could be delays in areas affected by snow.

Trains from Limerick through Nenagh to Ballybrophy will NOT run this morning due to the weather conditions.
