Call for HGV drivers to pay for damage caused to Liberty Square barriers

Truck drivers should be made pay for the repairs to the barriers outside Supermacs in Thurles.

That’s the call from councillors in the district after most of the railing was knocked over again recently and is in the process of being fixed by Tipperary County Council.

The barriers where the N62 meets Liberty Square at The Mall are there to stop pedestrians crossing at unsafe places but they are regularly being damaged.

It’s believed that HGVs failing to take the turn properly are to blame.

Transport Infrastructure Ireland pay for the repairs because it’s a national route – not the local authority – but Cllr Sean Ryan there should be some way to recoup the costs from bad drivers.
