Bord Pleanala rule against controversial one-way system in Ardfinnan

An Bord Pleanala has refused permission for Tipperary County Council’s changes to the bridge in Ardfinnan.

The temporary traffic management plan has been in place for over two years on the bridge in the village of Ardfinnan despite strong objections from local residents.

The state planning appeals board has however approved the essential repair works needed on the centuries old crossing.

Local resident Stefan Grace is among the many welcoming the decision.

The delays caused by the traffic lights is said to have led to increased volumes on other routes.

Fianna Fáil’s Micheál Anglim said this was also causing problems.

An initial application to An Bord Pleanala by the local authority for the works on Ardfinnan bridge had to be resubmitted.

Speaking on Tipp Today Deputy Mattie McGrath said lessons need to be learned from the decision.
