There's been a massive increase in house building and planning applications in County Tipperary.

New figures from Link-2-Plans show that the county is ahead of the national average on both counts.

The latest National Housing Construction Index shows an increase of 233% in the number of residential construction projects which commenced in Tipp for the first two months of 2014 compared with the same period last year.

This compares with a national increase of 192%.

Work started on 70 housing developments in Tipp during January and February compared with just 21 for 2013.

Meanwhile the number of planning applications in the first two months of the year in Tipperary is more than double the national increase.

81 applications were lodged during that time – an increase of 45% on the 56 new applications during January and February of 2013.

The increase is being put down to demand in the sector, increased confidence to start new residential projects and the rush to lodge commencement notices before the 1st March deadline for the introduction of the new building regulations.
