This compares with a rise of 3% seen a year ago.

In the Premier County, the average house price is now €147,000, 16% above its lowest point during the economic downturn.

The national average asking price in the third quarter of 2015 was just over €205,000, this compared with just under €190,000 a year ago and €164,000 at its lowest point in early 2013.

Prices fell in Dublin, but rose outside of the capital, particularly in other urban areas like Waterford and Cork.
