Review of Tipperary Garda stations

Senior Garda officials in the Tipperary Division have been tasked with examining stations across the county with a view to determining where mergers or even closures can be imposed

That's according to Deputy Michael Lowry who says the permanent closure of stations in Ballinure and Ballingarry could be just a foretaste to things to come.

The Independent T.D for North Tipperary says this review is particularly worrying given the increases in burglary in rural areas over the last number of months.

Deputy Lowry says we are now facing a crisis with regards to policing in this country, pointing out that policing is not a business being run for profit by the state.

He says the negative impact station closures will have on the public should be considered rather than how many Euro will be saved.
