Results on new Junior Cycle ballot due tomorrow

Today is the final day for members of the ASTI and the TUI to submit their votes on the compromise solution agreed with the Education Minister in May.

Under the plan, teachers would not assess their own students for State exams, but would carry out classroom-based assessment focusing on skills like oral communication and problem-solving.

Education Minister Jan O'Sullivan is due to comment on the outcome at annual conference of the Education Training Boards of Ireland tomorrow.

Pat O'Mahony, Education Officer for the ETBI, is expecting unions to agree to reforms which he says will benefit wider society.
