Residents of Tipp housing estate will have to pay property tax despite meeting exemption criteria.

Residents of a Tipperary estate will be forced to pay the Property tax, despite meeting the criteria for an exemption.

The matter was raised in the Dail by South Tipp Independent Deputy Mattie McGrath who said that residents of the Longfield Estate in Boherlahan, were asked to pay the charge when they shouldn't have been.

He said that a receiver has yet to be appointed, but the developer was not active on the site.

This means that the residents should be exempt from paying the tax.

Minister Jan O'Sullivan conceded that the estate should have been included in the waiver scheme but an error meant that it was omitted.

She said that the Government were unable to correct the error, so residents would have to pay until the mistake was rectified.
