Report set to recommend that a bottle of wine should not cost less than €10.

That means the minimum price for a bottle of wine would be €10.

Consultant endocrinologist, Professor Donal O'Shea, is in favour of the measure.

He says alcohol causes untold damage to our health.

“If alcohol came along now, and was discovered now, it would never be available” he said.

“It is responsible for a third of emergency department attendances; it's responsible for a significant number of hospital admissions and long-stay hospital admissions”.

“It causes an enormous amount of harm” he added.
