The Vatican’s Sistine Chapel has been closed to the public, to allow for the election of the next pope.
Known as the conclave, the process will start once the nine day mourning period for the late pontiff Pope Francis ends.

Preparations include installing the chimney where white smoke will rise when his successor is chosen.
Today’s meeting of the Tipperary – Cahir – Cashel Municipal District was adjourned for a time as a mark of respect to Pope Francis.
