The Vatican has confirmed the 88 year old passed away at 6.35 this morning (Irish time).
He appeared in public, just yesterday, greeting crowds on Easter Sunday.

During his papacy he visited Ireland – the first time a Pope had come here in almost 40 years – and visited Croke Park, Knock Shrine, Aras an Uachtarán and attended a mass in the Phoenix Park with around 150,000 others.
Arrangements are now being made for the funeral of Pope Francis – while the Papal Conclave is due to meet in the next two weeks to start the process of electing a new Pope.
