It looks like a former nursing home in a rural area in north Tipperary is not going to be used as an IPAS accommodation centre.
Negotiations had been underway between the owners of St Kieran’s in Rathcabbin and the Department of Integration.
Initially it was thought that it might be used to house Ukrainian refugees with disabilities.
But more recently is had seemed there was a possibility that it would be home to International Protection Applicants.
Local TD Michael Lowry says he’s been told that the talks have fallen through and the plans will not be going ahead.
”I’ve been informed by the Department and the Minister that the assessment process has been completed and St. Kieran’s has been deemed unsuitable for such use.
‘I have repeatedly said that this location was not suitable for the numbers likely to be housed there as the local amenities are not capable of sustaining them.”
