317 polling booths at over 130 locations across the five electoral areas of Tipperary – North and South have just opened this morning to allow people to cast their ballots on whether to accept or reject the 34th and 35th amendments of the constitution.
Only Irish Citizens are eligible to vote in Referenda and should have received their polling cards in the post in recent weeks indicating what polling station they should attend.
Voters are also urged to bring along some form of ID – particularly if they didn't receive a polling card – because if they are entitled to cast their ballots then their names will be included on the presiding officers list at polling stations.
They will be presented with two ballot papers – white for the marriage referendum and green for the one of the age of presidential candidates – and must indicate their preference with a x in only one of the two squares on each sheet.
Voting will continue until 10 pm this evening when the ballot boxes will be sealed and transferred to the count centre in Thurles and under garda watch overnight until they are opened, sorted and counted from 9am tomorrow.
