Over €1.7 million is set to be paid out to Tipperary farmers from this week under 2 separate agricultural programmes.

The largest tranche of monies come from the Beef Genomics Scheme with over €20 million being allocated to nearly 30,000 suckler farmers – over €1.2 million of this will go to Tipperary farmers.

Junior Agriculture Minister Tom Hayes has also confirmed that payments worth €15 million are being issued under the 2014 Grassland Sheep Scheme and nearly half a million of that is going to the Premier County.

The Tipperary South TD says it will be a much needed financial boost for hard hit farmers here saying it has been a tough year for beef farmers with prices not at the level expected.

He says it comes at an opportune time as many farmers are now settling bills at the end of a year of tight margins.
