Sporting facilities at the Thurles L.I.T campus could be in line for a major expansion.

Plans for their site on the Nenagh road have been lodged with Tipperary County Council.

Two new grass pitches and a 3G synthetic surface multi-functional sports area are planned for LIT Thurles.

All three would be GAA size and floodlit by nine 21 metre high columns, each with between 12 and 20 floodlights.

Two outdoor floodlit tennis courts and soccer goal areas are also planned.

A new mezzanine floor is proposed within the existing strength and conditioning building.

The exciting plans from Limerick Institute of Technology for their Thurles campus also include a running track around the perimeter of the proposed pitches.

21 additional car parking spaces are planned – Tipperary County Council is due to rule on the planning application by October 11th.
