Revised options have been unveiled for a controversial project which could have seen giant pylons stretching across South Tipperary
The GridLink project will link Cork with Kildare via Wexford in a bid to upgrade Ireland's energy network.
The original plans from Eirgrid had proposed a series of pylons stretching up to 45 metres high to carry the high voltage cables.
Two of the routes being considered passed through South Tipp near Cahir, Clerihan and Carrick leading to considerable local opposition which resulted in thousands of submissions being lodged during the consultation process.
This morning Eirgrid CEO Fintan Slye said technological advances mean that it's now possible to utilise and upgrade existing power lines.
