A Tipperary school is one of 91 schools around the country that's been given the green light for the construction of permanent classrooms.

Boher National School will receive funding for the work as part of a €26.5 million fund being made available nationally.

Two 80 square metre classrooms are to be built at the school.

Minister for Education and Skills, Ruairí Quinn said this latest funding follows on from an announcement in March that 77 schools would be building new classrooms to replace prefabs.

Alongside the 91 schools approved today a further 12 schools are being considered by the Department of Education, as part of this scheme.

Those schools are expected to be finalised in the coming weeks. This is the biggest ever initiative to replace rented prefabs, involving a total of 180 schools.
