Inspectors with the health watchdog visited the premises last summer with the purpose to inform a decision to register the facility.
This was the second HIQA inspection of the site run by a large voluntary organisation and took place over 2 days last September-
Inspectors met with children, staff and managers and also received questionnaires from 16 parents and 15 children.
Inspectors found the Tipperary centre was well managed, child-centred- including a high standard of play facilities, trips to the cinema or bowling, had a comfortable and homely environment and that the staff were experienced committed and skilled.
In the initial inspection in May – HIQA found improvements were required in several areas including medication management, personal plans, as well as risk management and fire safety and an immediate action plan was issued.
During the return visit in September inspectors found that the provider had responded promptly and significant improvements had been made, however the report also points out that further improvements were still needed in several areas in order for the facility to achieve full compliance with 2013 regulations.
