Poor state of roads in Carrick District highlighted

This month's meeting of the local council has heard that 150 kilometres are in very poor condition but the authority only has enough funding to deal with 13 kilometres of this in 2017.

Engineers also admit that some routes haven't been touched in 40 years bar patchwork jobs and it would take “multiples” of the €4 million allocated to deal with all the roads that need extensive work.

Independent Councillor Eddie O'Meara says they simply have to raise funds one way or another to sort this as its unacceptable.

Cathaoirleach Imelda Goldsboro says they are getting it in the neck from the public but Councillors are limited in what they can do but lobby TDs and government.
