More than 1 in 5 people failed to turn up for hospital appointments at Nenagh General Hospital in February of this year.
Nationally that figure is 1 in 6.
According to a report in the Irish Independent there were 305 scheduled new outpatient appointments at Nenagh General Hospital last February.
Of these 66 – or 21.8% – failed to attend their appointment.
The Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital in Dublin had the worst attendance rate with nearly 36% of patients failing to turn up.
A number of possible reasons are being suggested for people not fulfilling outpatient appoints – they include forgetfulness, clerical errors by hospital staff and patients getting treatment elsewhere without informing the hospital.
