As predicted on Tipp FM News Fianna Fáil has opted to field two candidates in the Tipperary North Constituency for the upcoming General Election.
A party gathering in Templemore was chaired by the Minister of State at the Department of Further and Higher Education Niall Collins.
Initially the meeting at the Templemore Arms was set to be a selection convention for the new Tipperary North – Northwest Kilkenny constituency following Deputy Jackie Cahill’s recent decision not to seek re-election on health grounds.
His PA Ryan O’Meara put his name forward for selection having been elected to Tipperary County Council for the first time in the June local elections.
Also contesting was 20 year veteran Councillor Michael Smith from Roscrea.
However Fianna Fáil headquarters made the decision to have both men go on the ballot paper.
Ballingarry based Councillor Imelda Goldsboro was selected last September to contest the Tipperary South Constituency for Fianna Fáil.
