Murphy puts name forward for General Election

A Clonmel based councillor is hoping to contest the next General Election in a bid to regain a seat for Fine Gael in the Premier County.

The party lost both their seats in the new Tipperary constituency last year

Michael Murphy was first elected as a County Councillor in 2009 and contested the 2011 General Election in South Tipp polling just under 6,000 first preference votes.

Speaking on Tipp Today he said he’d put a lot of thought into putting his name forward for the party’s selection convention later this year.

Fianna Fáil’s Siobhán Ambrose has also told Tipp FM that she’d like run again when the next general election is called.

However the Clonmel Councillor and outgoing Cathaoirleach of the County says no decision’s yet been made in the Fianna Fail party in relation to Candidates.

She was first elected to Clonmel Borough Council in 2004 and ran in the general elections in 2007 and 2016, polling over 4-thousand first preferences each time.

Councillor Ambrose says her failure to win a Dail seat last time out hasn’t put her off running again.
