There are calls for an increase in the salary for local Councillors in Tipperary.

At present elected representatives are paid €16,000 a year as well as vouched expenses of up to €5,000.

Independent Councillor Seamie Morris says the lack of remuneration is deterring people from entering politics.

He feels full time County Councillors should be considered.
