Tipperary TD Mattie McGrath says his trip to Washington was in no way linked to the Burke family who crashed a gala dinner attended by the Taoiseach.
There have been some suggestions on social media the Independent Deputy knew of the plan.
Martina Burke and her children Ammi and Isaac entered the private event and began shouting at the Taoiseach, who was among the guests seated.
Enoch Burke has been jailed multiple times for repeatedly defying an injunction issued last year which ordered him to stay away from Wilson’s Hospital School in Co Westmeath.
On Tipp Today earlier Mattie McGrath said he ended up on the same flight to the US as the Burkes.
“I hadn’t a clue until she (Martine Burke) confronted me on the plane. I didn’t know who she was genuinely – she was a bit taken aback that I didn’t. We had a robust debate and we left it at that.
“I had nothing got to do with them.
“I saw them outside the White House alright – I didn’t go near them – but I saw them protesting. You couldn’t miss them. I don’t know what the purpose of their visit was because I was on the show with you a long time ago and agreed with Enoch Burke on the issue that happened with pronouns but the way they’ve gone about it is nonsensical.”
