Thurles Deputy Michael Lowry has been invited to hold discussions with Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael early next week.
It’s in an effort to agree the structure and parameters for the Regional Group of Independent TDs engagement in Government formation talks.
Following this the group will appoint their negotiators for more detailed discussions.
Meanwhile the Regional Group is to nominate Wexford Deputy Verona Murphy for the position of Ceann Comhairle of the Dail.
That’s despite outgoing Ceann Comhairle, Sean O Fearghail, wanting the job again.
It’s believed Ms Murphy is a viable candidate as part of a potential Government between Fianna Fail, Fine Gael and Independents.
