The Thurles representative is part of a new technical group formed this week involving a number of Independents including Sean Canney, Marian Harkin and Boxer Moran which gives them Dáil speaking time.

On Tipp Today earlier Michael Lowry said the possibility of becoming part of a coalition has been discussed.

“Nearly all of these members are prepared to have discussions and negotiations in relation to the formation of a government. I’ve had discussions with Micheál Martin and Simon Harris – they’re gone away to have their own discussions to set out the steps and the process that would be involved.

“We have made it clear that we’re available for discussions – I would imagine they would be preliminary in nature first of all and then if we progress we can get into detailed discussions in relation to it.”
