A Tipperary TD has again raised the need to restore what he describes as proper local government.
Deputy Seamus Healy told Taoiseach Micheál that this is the heartbeat of democracy.
The Clonmel Independent hit out once again at the decision in 2014 to abolish Borough and Town Councils saying they were replaced with committees that had no power, no functions and no money.
On Tipp Today earlier he said the establishment of the local democracy task force which was included in the Programme for Government is vital.
“What I’m trying to tease out with both the Taoiseach, the Tánaiste and the Minister of State John Cummins is first of all a date for the establishment of that Local Democracy taskforce.
“The fact that local interests and local community interests in particular would be party to that taskforce and specifically its terms of reference would include the restoration of Town and Borough Councils.”
