Tipperary South Fine Gael candidate Michael Murphy has been accused of trying to divert attention away from the government’s failure to deliver for the Premier County.
The current Mayor of Clonmel launched a stinging attack on Deputy Mattie McGrath and former TD Seamus Healy this week asking what if anything they had delivered for Clonmel and other towns in South Tipp during their time in Dáil Éireann.
Seamus Healy – who is seeking to regain the seat he lost in 2020 – told Tipp Today earlier that Fine Gael decisions had badly hit Clonmel.
“Michael Murphy is making a desperate attempt to cover up the disastrous decisions taken by Fine Gael in Government. Decisions that have been absolutely detrimental to the people of South Tipperary. I mean we just have to look at the records – the closure of Kickham Barracks by a Fine Gael led Government. We lost over 200 jobs from Kickham Barracks and associated works in relation to the Barracks and of course the closure of our mental health unit in St Michaels.”
For his part Deputy McGrath points out that the records show that he made 286 references to Clonmel in Leinster House during the 33rd Dáil and approximately 800 in total since 2007.
