Fianna Fáil is to run two candidates in the Tipperary North – Northwest Kilkenny constituency in the upcoming General Election.
What had initially been flagged as a selection convention in Templemore tonight to choose a candidate has now changed to a ratification process.
Following the decision by sitting TD Jackie Cahill not to seek re-election on health grounds both Michael Smith and Ryan O’Meara had put their names forward for consideration.
Roscrea based Councillor Smith has been a member of Tipperary County Council while Cloughjordan Councillor O’Meara was elected for the first time last June. He has been working as Deputy Cahill’s PA.
It’s understood delegates at tonight’s gathering in the Templemore Arms will be asked to ratify both Councillors rather than select one.
