FF won’t support Varadkar ‘strike ban’ plans

Fianna Fáil says the proposal by Leo Varadkar to ban certain workers from striking is “flimsy” and they wouldn’t support it.

Yesterday the front runner for the leadership of Fine Gael and Taoiseach outlined his wish to introduce laws banning strike action by workers in “essential services”.

Public Expenditure spokesperson Dara Calleary says the party is always ready for a snap election, if that’s what the new Taoiseach decides to do.

Meanwhile, the Unite trade union says the remarks by Leo Varakdar will be raised during a two-day Irish policy conference in Belfast this week – where the union is scrutinising renewed attacks on terms and conditions for both public and private sector workers.
