A South Tipperary based County Councillor is to contest the next General Election.

Michael ‘Chicken’ Brennan was elected for the Labour Party in the Carrick on Suir LEA to Tipperary County Councillor in the local elections.

Having initially said he would serve his apprenticeship on the local authority before looking towards the Dáil he has now had a change of heart.

On Tipp Today earlier the Killenaule man outlined the reasons for the decision.

“To a certain extent our Council work is limited to what we can actually access but when you’re dealing with the likes of Bus Éireann or Irish Water or a medical card situation – you have to be a TD to get those things over the line.

“I did say that I’d serve my apprenticeship but I said we’d look at it if the occasion arose and the occasion is here.”
