The Policing Authority has expressed its concern that road deaths and serious injuries are increasing.
It’s holding its public session, the theme of which is road safety – which was chosen before the recent problems with breath tests and wrongful convictions emerged.

The Government Road Safety Strategy had a target of reducing road fatalities from 162 in 2012 to 124 or less by 2020.
Chairwoman of the Policing Authority, Josephine Feehily says that Ireland’s performance on the roads over the last four years is deteriorating.
In terms of fatalities, they have increaded 15%, and serious injuries are up 34% over the last four years.
She says it’s not a good place for the country to be in.
