Police chief defends handling of Sydney hostage drama

The Police Chief in New South Wales is defending his team, after two hostages died in a siege at a Sydney cafe.

They were 34 year old cafe manager – Tori Johnson – and 38 year old barrister and mother of three Katrina Dawson.

Hostage-taker Man Haron Monis was also killed when specialist officers threw flash grenades into the building and then opened fire.

Four hostages and a police officer were injured.

Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione has defended his officers actions saying they have saved many lives.
