Efforts are being made to establish a branch of Pieta House in Clonmel.

The organisation helps people who are in crisis to gain access to counselling services.

Pieta House was founded by Joan Freeman and has branches locally in Roscrea and Limerick.

The need for such a service in South Tipperary emerged after a suicide awareness meeting earlier this week in Clonmel.

Joe Leahy, the meeting organiser, says this is one positive move that can be taken to deal with the epidemic of suicides sweeping the country.
