Planning permission has been refused for a fuel outlet off the M8 in Tipperary.

An application was lodged with Tipperary County Council in April for a site near Cahir.

The planning application was for the provision of petrol pumps for cars and heavy commercial vehicles together with a canopy and underground fuel storage tanks just off the M8 at Scartnaglorane a few kilometres west of Cahir.

It would have employed four people and was planned to operate 24 hours a day.

Parking for 28 cars, 13 HGV’s and 3 buses was included in the plans for the site near Junction 11.

However the local authority planning department has decided to rule against the application.

John O’Leary – the man behind the proposals – had previously been granted permission for a development on the site in 2014 which included a service station, restaurant, truck stop and driver rest area.

This was later overturned by An Bord Pleanala after an appeal was lodged by Topaz.
