A local man who’s been trying to re-develop a listed building on the main street in Tipp Town says he’s given up on it.

Local dentist Jerome Kiely bought the derelict premises several years ago with the intention of converting it into apartments.

He says he’s engaged with the county council and conservation experts in an effort to do things the right way.

But he says the level of restrictions on what work you can do on a protected structure mean that it would cost too much to be financially viable.

Jerome says we’ll never be able to end the scourge of dereliction in our towns with the current system.
