An Bord Pleanala has overturned a decision by Tipperary County Council to refuse permission for a controversial communications mast in a local village.
The local authority had twice rejected applications from Eir for a mast at their site in New Inn.
They had been refused permission for a 15 metre high structure on their compound in the village back in 2021 amid considerable local opposition to the development 64 submissions were made to Tipperary County Council during the planning process.
An appeal to An Bord Pleanala on this refusal was unsuccessful.
A new application was submitted to local planning officials in January of this year and again shot down with 34 submissions this time around.
Eir again appealed the decision to An Bord Pleanala with an inspector recommending once again that permission be refused given its location in the centre of the village beside a dwelling and also that they were not satisfied that Eir had properly explored alternative sites for the mast.
However despite this recommendation An Bord Pleanala has decided to grant permission for the new 15 metre mast as it was being located on a different part of the site.
