The way has been cleared for a solar farm capable of powering three quarters of Clonmel town.
Tipperary County Council granted permission last April for the Springmount Solar Farm on a 64 hectare site to the north of the N24 between Clonmel and Cahir.
This was appealed to An Bord Pleanala by a local resident who highlighted concerns about the impact of the development which would be within 100 metres of their house. They also had issues with the ‘glint and glare’ from the solar farm.
The state planning appeals board has also granted permission for the project with revised conditions which include measures to reduce the glare from the solar panels.
The development – which takes in Rathkeevin, Kilmolash and Jamestown – would power the equivalent of 12,000 households.
