Opponents of a planned solar farm near the village of Dualla claim they are effectively having to fight the government.
Following the granting of planning permission last month for the 130 hectare site a number of appeals have been lodged with An Bord Pleanala.
Over 300 submissions were made to Tipperary County Council during the planning process expressing serious concerns about the proposals from Power Capital Developments Ltd.
Among them was Dualla Together – spokesperson Conor Breen told Tipp Today earlier that Government policy is going to be a major stumbling block.
“We know we’re against a battle because the government don’t really care about the 308 people that sent in the submissions. All they really care about is meeting the 2030 renewable energy targets.
“And its quite clear none of our concerns were taken on board by Tipperary County Council – and I don’t mean to sling mud at Tipperary County Council but if you look at the planning reports you would see that there was grave concerns from the planners. It totally contravenes the County Development Plan and we’ve highlighted that fact to An Bord Pleanala.”
The state planning appeals board is due to issue a ruling on the case in August.
