Pay levels in Early Years sector under fire

A group representing the Early Years sector says pay levels don’t value the importance of early education and care.

IMPACT trade union says a new report from the Joint Committee on Children and Youth Affairs highlights the existing problem of low pay and substandard working conditions .

98 percent of employees in the sector are women meaning the report also exposes a significant gender pay gap.

IMPACT organiser Lisa Connell says many services operate on a ‘break even’ basis which is an unsustainable model.
