99 students have completed their initial training at the Mid Tipperary College and will now go on placement in stations right around the country.

Tomorrow's a first in more ways than one for these officers.

They were the first new students in five years to enter the Garda College last September and they're the first to undergo the revised training programme which focuses on individual responses to scenarios rather than rote learning.

Among the 99 – 4 are from Tipperary, 5 from Clare, 6 from Limerick, 3 from Offaly and Kilkenny and 2 from Waterford while almost a quarter of them were already reservists.

Following tomorrow's passing out parade in Templemore set to be attended by the Garda Commissioner and Justice Minister, the 81 men and 18 women will serve in stations for 65 weeks to complete their training.

They then return to Templemore for a further seven weeks to prepare for their final exam under this 2 year BA degree in Applied Policing.
