The government expenditure watchdog is to call in the Health Service Executive to explain how the works have gone €7 million over budget.
When Health Minister Simon Harris visited the Cashel hospital last October there wasn't a single patient there.
The matter was raised with the PAC by Tipperary TD Mattie McGrath – he told the Dáil this afternoon that the Cashel hospital has been refurbished to be a 'patient free zone.
Earlier Labour’s Alan Kelly told the PAC he couldn’t believe it’s not being used to address the overcrowding in South Tipperary General.
Speaking on Tipp Today Independent Deputy Seamus Healy said he hoped the PAC investigation will serve to focus on the purpose for which the building was refurbished.
