Overcrowding crisis continues

The overcrowding crisis continues to hit hospitals throughout the country, with University Hospital Limerick remaining the busiest today.

The Dooradoyle hospital- which serves North Tipperary- says it’s making every effort to deal with severe overcrowding, with 49 patients on trolleys.

Over the last number of days, a high number of patients presented to the hospital who required isolation while awaiting results of diagnostic test such as flu swabs.

Isolation cases have dropped today however some patients remain in allocated single rooms while tests results are confirmed.

South Tipperary General Hospital is also dealing with overcrowding with 35 people waiting in the emergency department and overflow areas of wards – including one minor.

According to the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation, there are 582 patients awaiting a bed nationally.
