OPW Chairperson defends rising cost of modular homes for Ukrainian refugees.

The OPW is before the Public Accounts Committee, where it has defended the rising cost of modular homes for Ukrainian refugees.

A recent report found they cost in the region of €440,000 each – more than double the initial forecasts.

The rapid build of 654 homes will cost €289m in total – work is currently ongoing on the construction of over 80 units on HSE owned land on the Heywood Road in Clonmel.

Chair of the OPW, John Conlon, told the committee they would be a State asset, with a lifespan of 60 years, which could later be used for social housing.
